WHAT IS BEACH TENNIS?
Introducing the Hottest New Sport in the US:
Beach Tennis
Combine the fun, social nature of Volleyball and the fast pace of Tennis... and you get the exciting sport of Beach Tennis.
Although it is primarily played on sand, Beach Tennis can be played during any season and on any surface: sand, grass, hardwood.... even snow!! It is much easier to learn than Tennis; beginners can get a rally going within minutes of stepping onto the court for the first time. Anyone who has ever played Platform Tennis, Kadima or Badminton can start playing immediately. Beach Tennis can be played both competitively or recreationally and because it's so simple to play, it appeals to athletes and non-athletes of all ages.
But what exactly is Beach Tennis? It's like Tennis except its played on a regulation Beach Volleyball court. 2 to 4 players on each team volley back and forth without letting the ball bounce... it's hard to make a ball bounce on sand!! One hit per team is all that is allowed and points are scored when the ball is hit outside the lines or touches the ground. Beach Tennis is played with specially designed paddles and de-pressurized tennis balls that make it easier to keep a rally going. The use of the paddle removes the aches and pains - especially on forearms and wrists - that can come with a rigorous game of Beach Volleyball and the sand adds extra cushioning for joints - especially knees and ankles - that can be caused by regular Tennis. The sport is naturally social and is played in groups as 2-on-2 (best for advanced players), 3-on-3 (for intermediate players and social fun) and 4-on-4 (for beginners and party with friends and family).
Beach Tennis is internationally recognized by the
International Tennis Federation
as an up and coming sport that can be fun competitively and recreationally. The sport is popular throughout the world with an estimated 150,000 players worldwide.
