Kraft and Wakeford Win Tri-State Open
East Coast Players Prepare for 2008 National Championship
Long Beach, NY was the setting for some incredible pro beach tennis action on Saturday, August 9. The Tri-State Open featured 16 Men’s and Women’s Pro division teams battling it out in preparation for this year’s National Championship, which takes place August 30-31 in Long Beach.
In the Men’s Pro division, Whitney “The Sandman” Kraft and Devin Wakeford defeated Frank Lorenzetti and George Wilkinson 8-4. For Kraft, it was his first tour victory since winning the 2007 St. Patty’s Day Smash in Delray Beach, FL, with then-partner Andy Lake.
In the Women's Pro division, three-time national champ Nadia Johnston, and interim partner Nicole Melch, completely dismantled Katrina Marino and Abbey Tayler, 8-0. It’s still unclear as to who Johnston will be paired with at this year’s National Championship where she’ll defend her title for the fourth straight season.
