SoCal Points Series Wraps With Televised Event; Testa and Osswald Win Men's Pro Finals
Beach Tennis USA wrapped up its SoCal Points Series this weekend in Long Beach, CA. The SoCal Series Slam – the finale of four tournaments held in Southern California -- showcased some of the nation’s best beach tennis talent and introduced thousands of Californians to the new, hybrid sport. The event was taped for TV broadcast and will air throughout the month of August on Tennis Channel and Comcast Sports West.
In the Men’s Pro division, Joe Testa (Hermosa Beach, CA) and Ozzie Osswald (Marina del Rey, CA) defeated Ken Kuperstein and Mike Fedderly (both of Palm Desert, CA) 8-3. Despite the defeat, Kuperstein and Fedderly earned enough points throughout the series – which included tournaments in San Diego, Santa Monica and Santa Barbara -- to take the series title. Both teams also earned spots in the upcoming 2007 National Beach Tennis Championship.
In the Women's Pro division, two-time national champion Nadia Johnston (Long Beach, NY) and her partner Arpi Kojian, (Santa Ana, CA) defeated Lisa and Laura Maloney (San Diego, CA) 8-4. The Maloney sisters dominated the points series, winning three of the four SoCal events.
