Local Athletes Excel At Beach Tennis Event

Beach Tennis USA wrapped up the second stop of its SoCal Points Series this weekend in Santa Monica, California. The Santa Monica Madness produced some exciting beach tennis action and showcased a wealth of local talent, as both veterans and newcomers to the hybrid sport competed in the daylong event.

The Men’s Pro division featured some familiar faces as the San Diego Smash winners Ken Kuperstein and Mike Fedderly (both of Palm Desert, CA) faced Joe Testa (Redondo Beach, CA) and Josh Osswald (Marina Del Ray, CA). Although the match was close, Kuperstein and Feederly were able to hold out, winning 8-6. This win extends their lead in the SoCal Points Series standings.

In the Women’s Pro division, two-time Beach Tennis National Champion Nadia Johnston (Long Beach, NY) and teammate Arpi Kojian of (Santa Ana, CA) edged out the sister team of Laura and Lisa Maloney (San Diego, CA) 8-3. Sunday marked Johnston’s first appearance in the 2007 Beach Tennis National Tour, and with the win guaranteed her team a bid to the National Championships in Long Beach, NY. The next event of the SoCal Point Series takes place in Santa Barbara, California on July 14th and 15th.
