2009 Point Series and Ranking System
Beach Tennis USA, effective immediately, will enforce an updated version of it’s previous point/ranking system to emphasize quality of wins, size of tournaments, consistency, and weight of the US National Championship. These necessary changes are as follows:
1. Points will NOT be awarded simply for entry into a tournament
2. Points are only earned by advancing into elimination rounds
3. There will be four tiers of tournaments, purely dependent on numerical size of the draw, with Tier 1 being the largest (besides the National Championship) and Tier 4 being the smallest. Higher tier tournaments will have more points than lower tier tournaments.
4. Tournament Tier (numerical size of the tournament) will directly reflect the amount of prize money submitted.
5. a. Rank directly coincides with the amount of points earned. b. Points are awarded on an individual basis. c. Although consistency of partners is encouraged, points are not awarded to a team, allowing individuals to play with different partners. (5.c. is implemented for player travel considerations, potential injuries, or other personal matters)
6. Tournament seeding is influenced, yet not bound, by points series standing… meaning a team who has not earned any points or played any tournaments throughout the year can still receive a seed if declared and approved through the BTUSA National staff
7. a. At the culmination of the BTUSA calendar year, individuals are rewarded points based on their top 4 results, regardless of events participated in. The national championships count as top 4 result. b. Individuals may play an unlimited amount of tournaments, however, only the top four finishes will be accounted for. If players play less than four tournaments, all points earned will be accounted for. Rules 6a and 6b are enforced to take into account travel considerations, quality and quantity of wins.
8. The US National Championship will have greater weight than all other tournaments.
9. At the end of the BTUSA calendar year, the number one and number two ranked individuals will be awarded $1,250 each and will be awarded as the Point Series Champions
10. There must be a minimum of:
- 12 teams for a men's draw
- 8 teams for a women's draw
in order for prize money to be submitted; and
- 12 teams for a men’s draw
- 5 teams for a women’s draw
in order for BTUSA points to be allocated

Tournament Entry Outlines and Draw Instructions
Tournament Outlines is designed to build consistency not only in amount of points and money allocated within each tournament, but to ensure that all BTUSA sanctioned tournaments are consistent with each other through pool play and final rounds.
The top seeds for each tournament must be approved by National before set; as previously mentioned, seeds are influenced, yet not defined, according to current BTUSA Point Series standings.
After seeding is finalized, all other entrants will be treated as equal by: a. placing teams name in a hat b. placing them in the draw accordingly as randomly selected out of a hat c. the first name out of the hat goes in pool 1, the 2nd in pool 2, and so on d. in circumstances where one pool may have more teams than another pool, skip the pool with the top seed(s) and continue on accordingly as directed below.
A higher ranked team that is not seeded may, by luck of the draw, play a seeded team in pool play, however, it is necessary as BTUSA Point Series and Tournament Systems do not work by seeding every team in the tournament (much like the NCAA Basketball Tournament).
All BTUSA Sanctioned events MUST be run as directed below:
