Oakley, CA Hosts Local Beach Tennis Major
Beach Tennis arrived in the northern California town of Oakley in the form of the inaugural US OWEN Beach Tennis Classic.
The tournament was named in honor of local club tennis director Winston Owen, former top 100 beach player and Beach Tennis evangelist.
The venue was a new court installed at the home of Todd Mollenhauer. Court construction was finished just in time for the tournament. All it took was a Bobcat, 32 yards of triple washed beach sand, and a net and line system from Beach Tennis USA.
16 teams competed in the 1 day event. For almost every participant, the tournament was their first Beach Tennis experience. Everyone adapted instantly and a high level of play ruled the day.
Beach Tennis has caught fire in our little community. As a result, the 2010 Classic will grow to 32 teams and a full weekend!
