2006 Delray Beach Open > Youth is Served as Juniors Win the Delray Beach Open

Jamal Adderly and Victor Dias, two nationally ranked Junior tennis players, overcame the competition and the elements on their way to winning the Men’s Pro division championship at the Delray Beach Open.

Held on May 6-7 in sunny Delray Beach in Florida’s Palm Beach County, the event was the third stop on Beach Tennis USA’s 2006 National Tour, following a successful West Coast swing that included tournaments in Santa Monica and Long Beach. Over 1,000 locals and tourists tried beach tennis or watched the tournament action over the weekend.

Adderly and Dias, both of Delray Beach, defeated fellow Floridians Mike Ramirez (Miami) and Rick Simeon (Hollywood) by a score of 8-3 in the Men’s Pro finals.

The winners exhibited superior athleticism throughout Sunday’s tournament, which was played on a hot and windy afternoon. Adderly and Dias hit some of the most impressive overhead smashes seen to date in our tournaments and the 92 degree heat was no problem for them. A key to the young duo’s victory was their ability to handle the wind, which was important since the strong southerly winds affected play by carrying the ball out of bounds when players hit to the northern side of the court.

In the Women’s Pro division, Priscilla Dias and Dianna Bovea swept through the competition as they won all three of their matches by lopsided scores (8-3, 8-1, 8-0). The winners are both residents of Delray Beach.
